"From our grantees at @humanewalton 🐈‍⬛ We are ESPECIALLY thankful this month for the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF) which allowed us to SAVE THIS KITTEN and cover half of the cost of his meds needed to treat his positive case of FIP! We see several cases of FIP annually, both the ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ versions, and they often are caught too late and often do not have a happy ending. ☄️ Asteroid, pictured below a week in on treatment, very obviously has the ‘wet’ version which has caused his fluid filled torso to balloon like a tick 🦠 “FIP stands for Feline Infectious Peritonitis. It is a severe, progressive viral disease in cats caused by a mutation of the common feline coronavirus. While most cats contract the harmless intestinal coronavirus without issue, the virus mutates into FIP in a small percentage of cats, triggering a fatal immune reaction.”🏥 ‘Treatment: Once considered fatal, FIP is now widely treatable using specific antiviral medications (such as GS-441524) that target the virus and save many cats.’💰 This treatment is expensive. We are splitting the cost of it between DDAF grant funds and private donations. We are so thankful for Animal Care Hospital at Bold Springs for providing his care and giving us time to get the remaining funding so we could start Asteroid’s treatment!#dorisdayanimalfoundation #ddaf #humanewalton"

"From our grantees at @heart_of_phoenix_equine_rescue Little Saffron is a filly at Heart of Phoenix being raised as an orphan when her mama, who was rescued entirely emaciated, then rejected her at birth. She was born compromised, and she spent quite a while at an equine hospital. She has needed milk replacer, foal pellets, and a foster mare for companionship to thrive. Continued thanks to the Doris Day Animal Foundation, as their giving helps makes hard cases like this possible!
