I use data-driven methods to untangle climate change patterns from natural variability, providing clearer insights into climate risks. "I am a Climate Scientist at Climate Central. My research interests explore the intersection of climate risk, climate impacts, future scenarios, extreme events, early warning predictions, and data science methods like AI/ML. In addition to this work, I am very passionate about improving science communication through accessible data visualizations."
"Prior to my time at Climate Central, I was a Research Physical Scientist (federal) at NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. I earned my Ph.D. in 2020 from the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine, where I explored the links between Arctic climate change – particularly sea ice loss – and its influence on the large-scale atmospheric circulation and extreme weather. My thesis research combined new global climate model experiments with observational data to better understand these complex connections. After my Ph.D., I completed postdocs at Colorado State University’s Department of Atmospheric Science and later at Princeton University’s Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program. There, I focused on using explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to detect and attribute regional patterns of climate change and variability, introducing new data-driven methods to tackle the challenge of untangling climate signals from natural variability. I first got into climate science through my B.Sc. in Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University, where I was president of the American Meteorological Society Chapter (CCAMS). In that role, I led initiatives on severe weather emergency management, operational forecasting techniques, and community outreach – reinforcing my passion for making science both actionable and accessible."
"At any one time, you can probably find me buried away forecasting the weather, making climate visualizations on Bluesky, trying the local diner, watching scary movies, or enjoying a day in the woods. Please reach out or check out my monthly blog!"
