"A fresh month of home track action brought the best of the best to Central Ontario Saturday, August 1st, as a 50-lap SwitchTire Mini Stock shootout main event highlighted the night’s program at Peterborough Speedway. Current point leader Bailey Jacobs and Dan Archibald brought the Super Stock starting field from the staging area for a 25-lap feature tilt. Jacobs grabbed the lead from the drop of the green flag, but he had a quartet of heavy hitters battling for position behind him. The Warsaw, Ontario based No. 60 machine broke away from the pack and logged another solid performance to take the win in the caution-free headliner. Herb Walters and Paul Boundy followed the 2-time track champion under the checkered flag. Shawn Murray and Isaiah Switzer were in control of the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck staring grid with 20 laps on the table. Murray took the initial race lead, with Scott Jacobs, Howie Crowe and James Townsend – in the Gordon Racing No. 52 truck – close behind. Murray was turning in a strong run of his own, while Crowe and Townsend had their own battle and taking turns in the runner-up position before the halfway mark. Townsend – who has been solid in every main event on his 2026 schedule – took the lead with a dozen laps on the scoreboard and held on for another win. Murray, Crowe, Jacobs and Switzer completed the top in the night’s 2nd caution-free main event. Nadeau’s Collision Service Junior Late Model action came to the line with a 15 lap or 20-minute agenda, led by Kaiden Beatty and Dylan Ephgrave on the front row. The lead duo broke away at the drop of the green flag and had started putting slower traffic a lap down with just over a handful of circuits complete. With the field of talented young racers searching high and low for an advantage, Beatty pushed his No. 86k to its limits and had a commanding lead over his closest rival. On a night where caution-free features were the rule instead of the exception, Beatty took the checkered flag over Brody Coates, Owen Ephgrave, Brayden Cappuccitti and Troy Purvis. In post race inspection, Beatty was found to have used an illegal track width and disqualified. Coates was credited with the win, with Lyla Sikma moved into the top 5. With a stellar field of nearly 25 starters in tow, Shawn Dearmer and Alexis Melhuish brought the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock line-up to the Great Canadian RV green flag. Former track champion Shawn Solomon took the early lead as the pack caught the tail end of the field with nearly 10 of the 20-lap race distance complete. With the No. 19 machine holding the hot hand, the lead group formed an attack on the outside line. Kyle Novis moved into the runner-up spot with 13 laps on the scoreboard and had reigning track champion Alex Dallaire and 2025 rookie of the year Jacob Stavropoulos looking for a way to the front. Solomon led the pack to checkered flag. Novis, Dallaire, Stavropoulos and Steve Oakes completed the top 5. In post race inspection, the No. 19 of Shawn Solomon was discovered to have rear tires not in line with the front tires and disqualified. Kyle Novis was declared the race winner. Action wrapped up with a 50-lap Shootout for the SwitchTire Mini Stocks that started with Rob Crick and Cory Horne on the front row. Tiffany Vandebelt was the early race leader when the night’s first feature race caution flag waved for a 2nd turn incident with 3 laps complete. James Townsend charged to 3rd and then the runner-up spot just after the restart, with leaders putting some backmarkers a lap down with 15 laps on the scoreboard. The pilot of the No. 14 ride took the lead and survived a late race yellow flag to keep his 2026 Peterborough Speedway unbeaten streak alive. Rob Crick, point leader John Lavalle, Kyle Abbott and Vandebelt were next across the line. Townsend’s Mini Stock Shootout win resulted in a $550 bank deposit. The Peterborough Speedway winner’s share was $350, with another $150 from Fenney Call Photography and a $50 halfway leader bonus from Clarke Motorsports Communications. Coltin Everingham and Herb Walters locked-up main event starting positions with Super Stock preliminary round checkered flags. James Townsend and Shawn Murray shared the Renegade Truck heat race wins. Junior Late Model qualifiers went to Brayden Cappuccitti and Brody Coates. A trio of Bone Stock heat races were split between Jacob Stavropoulos, Kyle Novis and Alex Dallaire. Dave Bragg and James Townsend scored Mini Stock qualifiers. All finishing positions are unofficial until verified by scoring review and post race inspection. Bullring bullet points: James Townsend took another turn in the Gordon Racin No. 52 Renegade Truck. Mechanical issues discovered after the pre-race practice session sidelined the No. 37 pick-up of Stacy Switzer…The No. 01 Bone Stock ride was piloted by Shannon Cappuccitti…It was a tough night for the No. 83 Mini Stock and driver Cameron McGlashan. After experiencing oil pressure issues in his own car, he picked-up a ride in a car Coltin Everingham had been slated to run. That car also suffered a mechanical failure and was finished for the night…2023 track champion and 2026 feature winner Miles Tyson was unable to start the night’s Super Stock main event…’The Dentman’ Dave Watchorn made the tow from North Gower with his vintage Toyota to run the 50-lap Mini Stock Shootout…Former track champion and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series competitor Willow Barberstock made her first start of the year. Unfortunately, it was a short night as mechanical issues sidelined her No. 62 effort early in the Bone Stock feature…Dan Demers of nearby Cavan continued a streak of making at least 1 start a year by taking the Mini Stock Shootout green flag…The night’s Kinsmen 50/50 draw prize of $602.50 went home with Barb Mooy. Next on the weekly agenda will be the home track Bone Stock and Late Model divisions, along with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Cars and KOD Disposal Ontario Bandoleros. The Ontario Sportsman Series will also be on hand for the Silver Wheel 100, presented AF Automotive Fluids ‘A’ main, with Kid’s Barrel Races as the intermission feature.
