"Jul 12, 2026 - "Shipboard Radio Receiving Equipment 1918 to 1925" - SE-143 from 1918 and much more - RCA considered the SE-143 the first receiver that performed adequately for shipboard use. Although it's just an RF Tuner, it's an incredible one, with tremendous selectivity and flexibility for top performance from various types of detectors. All of the testing, experimenting and adjusting is documented with photographs and it all ends up with the SE-143 as an impressive performer. This SE-143 write-up has been combined with the write-up on the SE-1387 and SE-1834 combination "upgrades" for the SE-143. The SE-1387 was a tunable Heterodyne Oscillator to provide CW reception and the SE-1834 was an almost complete receiver minus the tuned front-end. When these upgrades were combined with the SE-143, the receiver had three RF amplifier stages, a detector, a Heterodyne Oscillator for CW reception and two stages of Audio amplification - a seven tube, TRF receiver with tuned Heterodyne oscillator - Wow! Also, this expanded write-up has been combined with an updated version of the former article "Classic Shipboard Wireless Receivers SE1420, IP501 & IP-501-A" to have an enlarged and OCD-detailed look at the wireless techno-electronic evolution that was rapidly progressing from just after WWI up through the mid-twenties. Lots of testing, lots of experimenting and lots of photos (over 60 photographs, including several that are 1920s-vintage) also lots of detailed technical information that's not found anywhere else. Shipboard Radio Receiving Equipment 1918-1925"
"Apr 19, 2026 - Canadian Marconi Company - The WWII CSR-5 Receivers - A detailed look at one of the most visually engaging receivers of WWII. No doubt, the CSR-5's huge, multi-color, spectacularly illuminated, semi-circular dial is this receiver's focal-point but there's more to this Royal Canadian Navy WWII receiver than just looks. The circuit features double preselection, two IF stages, Crystal Filter, dual output impedances, logging scale with six tuning ranges covering 79kc to 550kc and 1500kc to 30mc. Two CSR-5 receivers are profiled in detail. The first receiver is a Type CSR-5 110930-Z, a table model receiver. The second receiver is a Type CSR-5 110480, a rack mount receiver from a CM-11 Transmitter-Receiver. Lots of refurbishment details and lots of photos. Canadian Marconi CSR-5"
