Nonprofits typically calculate their overhead rate to include only costs that do not pertain to programmatic work, such as fundraising costs. Using that same calculation style, the IAF’s overhead rate was 11% in 2024, right in line with nonprofit standards. The main reason why the Inter-American Foundation is so cost-effective is precisely that it directly funds local organizations.
